Google I/O Conference 2013: What to Expect

Google I/O 2013, serving as the announcement platform for several new products and some replacement for old product, is scheduled for May 15 through 17. Its registrations have already opened on March 13 and the tickets sold like hot cakes, all sold out in less than an hour.

Now Google has become the leader in technology world, making it really need to give few solid technology blockbusters in 2013 knockout, both in the realm of software and hardware products. The event itself is still a few months away, but we have already had an idea of what we are sure to see and we are likely to see on Google I/O 2013.

Google I/O Conference 2013 Rumors and Predictions

Recently I have analyzed all the speculations, rumors, forecasts and predictions for Google I/O 2013 about the new hardware product and software innovations that are expected to be launched at the event. Here under is the quick round up of the things expected from G-team.

1. Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

One thing we can bet on is Android 5.0, codename Key Lime Pie. Considering that it has already been more than a year since Android 4.0 was introduced, the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will be the start of the evening without any doubt.

Android 5.0 is said to be quite different and Google will introduce something new so as to make Key Lime Pie a big improvement over the current Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The difference may not be as big as the jump from Gingerbread to ICS, but expect some big changes to the UI at least. (I will continue to share some hotly rumored features on Key Lime Pie, stay for my update.)

2. Google Now for Chrome

It is generally known that Google Now is Android's biggest gems. However, it is not going to be exclusive to Android for long. Recent reports show that Google is working on building Now into Chrome and you and expect the personalized search tool to be present in plenty of Google products soon enough.

3. New Nexus 7

Along with the new OS, Google will have at least one Nexus device to showcase it on. The safest bet is on a new Nexus 7, possibly a slightly larger one with a 7.8-inch screen to better compete with the iPad Mini. Given that the original 7-inch tablet was announced at the 2012 conference, it would not be too far fetched to expect its follow-up device.

Apart from the bigger screen, the internals will most likely be bumped up to a Tegra 4 SoC, while the prices will stay roughly the same. Google may try to one-up Apple and add a Retina-class display into the mix, but won’t do it unless it can keep the price down. The Nexus 7 has been a huge success so don’t expect the formula to change that much. Hopefully this will be a lot more on-board memory and sports better battery life.

4. Possibly a Nexus 5

While a new Nexus 7 tablet is almost a given, there are also rumors of a successor to the Nexus 4, the so-called Nexus 5. LG has ever said that it is working with Google on several devices and it is quite possible that the Nexus 5. If it really exists, it will be more of an update on the Nexus 4 rather than a new device, akin to the upgrade from the LG Optimus G, on which the Nexus 4 is based, to the LG Optimus G Pro.

Of late there are also some leaks about the rumored Nexus 5. You can check out my last post Google's Nexus 5 Superphone Leaked: Buy Samsung's Galaxy S4 or Wait for Next Nexus? to know the leaked features.

5. Motorola X

Google I/O 2013 may also witness the debut of another mobile – the mythical Motorola X. It is said that Google is working on this superphone since it completed the Motorola acquisition.

Motorola is said to be throwing everything it has got at this new halo device. That is also the reason why it may not be ready in time for I/O. If it is, expect it to be the star of the annual show.

6. Google Glass

Another safe bet is that we will see plenty of Google Glass at this 2013 Google I/O Conference. Google has already held a competition for the most dedicated fans, promising to sell the device to whoever manages to provide an interesting use case for it. Also, there will be a late 2013 launch for Google Glass in the general channels.

More, it seems like that we will get more information about the Google Stores on I/O Conference 2013, if the reports on Google is working on opening its own retails stores is real. Google has plenty of hardware already, so a store may not be such a bad idea.

If above mentioned are true then this year I/O would truly be one hell of a blast for tech geeks. More surprises are expected. So what else do you expect to see at Google I/O 2013? Other than that, are you looking forward to any of the above mentioned products? Welcome to show your predictions below!
