Actually there are quite a few Wi-Fi calling apps out there and each of them has its own benefits and drawbacks. Some offer voice-only calling, while some allow for video calls, photo transfer and group chat. I've spent some time playing with a handful of these Wi-Fi calling apps and found some are incredibly useful. Here I would share them with you all! Just take a
gander at my 4 favorite apps for making free Wi-Fi calls.
1. Skype
Skype is undeniably the biggest name in Wi-Fi calling. The Skype app for Android is used all around the world and remains as popular as ever. Much like the desktop counterpart, the mobile version allows for a variety of ways to stay connected.
Users of Skype for Android version will be able to make free Skype-to-Skype video calls, send instant messages, and voice calls via 3G or Wi-Fi. Not only that, users can make low-cost calls and send SMS messages to other mobile users directly using their Android phones.
Standout features: Free Skype-to-Skype calling; inexpensive international rates; simple and intuitive interface; massive user base.
2. Google Voice
If you are fond of making international calls then look no further than Google Voice. What makes Google Voice the top choice is Google’s interconnectivity with its products. Google Voice takes away the problem of having to use multiple numbers for different purposes as users can enjoy a single number and still be connected with their close circle of friends, even if it’s for business or personal use.
Creating a Google Voice account is easy as you just need to sign-up for a Google account. Google Voice has also a built in voicemail system that allows users to eavesdrop on someone during the recorded message. SMS is power, and Google Voice is fully integrated with it. Google Voice is not limited to just chit chat, but also allows you to send text messages to someone from anywhere in the world. Not only that, Google Voice also allows you to make cheap international calls using your own Google number.
Standout features: Number porting; call recording; calls from within Gmail; Do Not Disturb; inexpensive international rates; and computer Web browser extensions.
3. Fring
What makes me appreciate Fring most is its ability to freely call other Fring users around the world. Furthermore, it doesn't cost a penny to use video chat or send messages. If you need to call a landline or mobile that is outside your country of origin, the fringOut option will provide you inexpensive rates.
Android phones and tablets with front-facing cameras could make video calling with up to four friends at a time. Fring is a choice for those looking for a Skype alternative and has improved over time. I have been impressed with its quality in both voice and video calls.
Standout features: Free Fring-to-Fring calling anywhere in the world; inexpensive international rates; up to four video callers at once.

Another popular cross-platform service, Tango works for desktops as well as other mobile devices. Features include free international voice and video calling as well as messages and photos sending. Recent updates to the Android include support for sending audio messages, sharing photos to Facebook, and avatars and video filters for calls. Note that some of the features require Android 4.0 and higher to work properly.
Standout features: Free Tango-to-Tango calling anywhere in the world; inexpensive international rates; animation packs; games over video calls.
